What the calculator includes, where the numbers come from, and what it leaves out.
What is calculated
- Annualising pay: hourly × hours per week × weeks worked; daily × days per week × weeks worked; weekly × 52; fortnightly × 26; monthly × 12.
- Income tax: ATO resident, foreign resident and working holiday maker marginal rates for 2025–26 and 2026–27 (see
src/data/tax.json). - Low Income Tax Offset (LITO): up to $700, reduced by 5c per dollar between $37,500 and $45,000, then 1.5c per dollar to $66,667. Residents only.
- Medicare levy: 2% for residents, with the low-income shade-in above $27,222 (10c per dollar until the full 2% applies).
- HELP / HECS: the marginal repayment system – nil to $67,000, 15% of the excess to $125,000, $8,700 plus 17% to $179,285, then 10% of total income.
- Superannuation: 12% super guarantee shown on top of salary, or backed out of a total package.
- Casual loading: 25% loading is shown as a base hourly rate; it does not change tax.
What is not included
Medicare levy surcharge, salary sacrifice, work-related deductions, other offsets (e.g. SAPTO, private health), family and spouse thresholds, state payroll tax, student loans other than HELP, and income outside salary. Weekly pay assumes 52 weeks, and PAYG withholding by your employer can differ from final tax on assessment.
Items to verify
Medicare low-income thresholds and the 2026–27 HELP thresholds are indexed annually; the figures used are the latest confirmed and are flagged as estimates until the ATO publishes updates.
